The Sydney hardcore, metalcore and punk scenes will come together this Saturday night to honour Baltimore frontman Tom Zachary Thorne, who tragically passed away at the start of the year.

The beloved musicians’ bandmates will perform a tribute set as part of The Hideaway Bar‘s third birthday party, in celebration of Tom’s legacy as both a musician and a mate, with all funds raised to be donated to his family during this incredibly difficult time.

Hideaway is a fitting location to host such a public salute to the young Baltimore frontman, who played one of the first ever gigs at the Enmore Road venue when it first opened its doors to live music almost three years ago.

“To hear of Toms passing has made us numb,” venue owner Dean Kirk-Ayton writes. “His energy at every show was next level and made every show one of our favourites… we will dedicate this bday show in his honour and there will be a bucket on the bar and all money in it will be donated to his family…. RIP Tom Zachary Thorne you will be missed!”

Tom’s Baltimore bandmates will be joined by fellow local legends Bare Bones, We May Fall, Junkhead and Adriaaan on the lineup, for what’s shaping up to be an epic evening.

Meanwhile, tributes have been pouring in across social media from everyone in the scene who knew and loved Tom, including his bandmates in Baltimore.

“Tom, words cannot express the happiness that you brought to me through our friendship,” writes bassist Nick. “You were always there for me through the best and the worst, and I wish you were still here so I could thank you for everything you’ve done for me. You always believed in me, and stuck with me through so many years, you taught me so many things, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together.

“You were one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, an inspirational person to all those around you. You made us all laugh with your jokes, and blew us away with your incredible musical talent. You had an amazing ability to put a smile on so many faces.

“Even through the most difficult times you would show up to practice. Your passion and dedication to music and your bandmates, your friends and family is something that will never be forgotten. Even after some of the worst years of your life, you still came to the studio to play your guitar, and scream into the mic with all the energy you had, or just to hang out with your mates.”

The sheer magnitude of grief from everyone in the scene who ever crossed paths with Tom is a testament to the huge and incredible impact that this beautiful soul left on all those whose lives he touched with his music and his big heart.

Sydney-siders can pay their respects to Tom by heading along to Hideaway Bar this Saturday night, 20th January.
