Yesterday’s shock news that Melbourne nightclub Bang! is closing after 12 years has us all embracing our inner emo.
Social media has exploded with devo punters expressing their grief, and TBH we’re right there with you all:
Can’t believe @BangMelbourne is ending, made so many great friends and played so many great shows within those walls

Yeah so now that Bang! is shutting its doors that really does leave fuck all decent venues for local bands to play at. Melbourne live music capital my ass!! What a joke

I am gonna be sad if @BangMelbourne doesn’t have a my chem cover band (or emo cover band) to close the last night at Bang, closing with Helena, so the last song ever played at bang ends in “so long and goodnight”

Promoters announced the bittersweet news on Facebook last night with an official event counting down the final ten weeks of the weekend alt-bash and — yep — they’re planning to go out with a ~BANG~
“We’re going to have some huge surprise bands, DJs, guests and reunions planned for this final 10 weeks,” promoters promise.
Yep, it’s the FINAL COUNTDOWN.
One of their remaining shows includes this epic Simpsons-themed metal party dubbed ‘Homerpalooza’, which includes free donuts, alcoholic squishees, Duff Beer and a headlining set by Springfield-themed doom band, Dr. Colossus.
However, promoters also promise that “this won’t be the last you see of us”.
“We’ve got some super special and amazing things in the works which we can’t wait to tell you about very soon,” they write. “But for now we’re going to throw some of the biggest, best and craziest parties to send us off in style.”
Meanwhile, at least some of Melbourne’s mascara-stained tears have been washed away by the news that Sydney emo party AM//PM is expanding to Melbourne (and Brisbane) with a killer pop-punk lineup this June.
