Lorde has annotated her latest single ‘Perfect Places’ on Genius revealing that it partly deals with her feelings of the deaths of David Bowie and Prince.

There’s a line in the song where she sings, “All our heroes fading”, which, according to the singer herself, is about Bowie and Prince.

“I felt the loss of Prince and DB hard last year. A massive light went out,” she annotated.

Bowie once said that he thought Lorde was, “the future of music,” and when he died Lorde paid tribute to him at the Brit Awards.

The song is also about partying and a very hot New York summer.

“It sort of drove me insane,” she said about the temperature which was being reported on positively in the papers, hence the line, “I hate the headlines and the weather.”

“I was walking around Midtown every day and felt like I was this close to ripping my clothes off or freaking out at a stranger.”

Lorde just gave the song its live debut at Governors Ball in New York City. It’s the third song to be taken from her record Melodrama which will be released in just under a fortnight.
