Kendrick Lamar Could Pull His Music Off Spotify Because Of This Controversial Policy

Kendrick Lamar has reportedly been on the blower to Spotify, threatening to yank his music off the platform if it maintains its new hate content policy.

The policy, which can be read here, essentially allows Spotify to refrain from promoting or playlisting music that it deems to violate its standards of “openness, diversity, tolerance and respect” or basically axe “offensive” songs off its playlists, with problematic artists. R. Kelly and XXXTentacion the first to feel the brunt of the new amendments..

But, as Bloomberg reports, many in the industry have criticised the stance as unfairly targeting people of colour. And one of those is Kung Fu Kenny.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Compton MC reportedly placed a personal phone call to Spotify Chief Executive Officer Daniel Ek and head of artist relations Troy Carter to express his frustrations with the policy, and even threatened to pull his own music from the service if things didn’t change.

And such is the power of K-Dot that Spotify is already starting to roll back the changes.

XXXTentacion’s music has since reappeared on Spotify’s flagship playlists and, according to Bloomberg, the streaming juggernaut is “talking to the music industry and civil-rights activists about how and when to adjust its rules in a manner suitable to both sides”.

Let’s hope it’s enough to save all of our playlists from haemorrhaging Kendrick tunes!

While we wait to see how this all plays out, you can check out Kendrick’s 2018 Australian tour dates for Splendour In The Grass right here.
