Josh Homme «Tried To Get» Iggy Pop To Bring ‘Post Pop Depression’ Tour To Australia

Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has revealed that he tried to get his mate and musical collaborator Iggy Pop to bring their ‘Post Pop Depression’ tour to Australia.

Homme spilled the beans when he dropped by triple j ahead of QOTSA’s headline set at Splendour In The Grass this weekend, joining presenter Zan Rowe for her ‘Take 5’ segment.

During their chat, Homme revealed that he once tried to convince Pop to bring the duo’s ‘Post Pop Depression’ tour — which featured the pair alongside guitarist Matt Sweeney, Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders and QOTSA’s Dean Fertita and Troy Van Leeuwen — to Australia.

“I tried to get him to come here,” Homme said when asked what the tour was like, adding that whilst on the tour, “I just really enjoyed myself.”

Pop toured with Homme in 2016 across the US, UK and Europe in support of their Post Pop Depression album, but the tour never made it down under.

Iggy Pop indicated at the time of the release that there was a good chance it would be his last album ever, but despite that he hadn’t considered quitting music altogether.

During his chat with Rowe, Homme also praised the work of Aussie music legends INXS, and played their 1982 track ‘Don’t Change’. “I grew up listening to this band, when they came across the pond — just one of those beautiful Aussie exports,” he said.

Queens Of The Stone Age wrapped up their run of Splendour sideshows last night in Melbourne, and performed in Sydney earlier this week.

If you’re not at Splendour this weekend, you can still tune in to QOTSA’s set live on your radio.
