Have just 'tasted' a bit of it … and look forward to fully indulge at a later time … ;o)
Best regards & hug, Karin
FABULOUS!
Such exquisite interpretation!
And ~ isn't the title adorable? I think J.S.Bach created a 'Klavierbuechlein' also for his daughter … :o)
Thank you, dear Val, for the listening pleasure ~ and ~ have a great weekend!
Hugs, Karin
The concept behind this beautifully packaged two-disc set is a performance of the musical notebook Johann Sebastian Bach composed for the education of his eldest son, Wilhelm Friedemann. In essence, this set includes different versions of the 15 Two-part and 15 Three-part Inventions plus earlier versions of 11 preludes from the Well-Tempered Klavier along with several choral preludes, a few transcriptions of other composers' works, and at least a couple of original compositions by 10-year-old Wilhelm Friedemann himself. In effect, it's very cool — harpsichordist Christophe Rousset is a brilliant player with a sprightly wit and a warm tone, and his performances are delightfully funny and wonderfully poetic. Beyond that, the music is very, very cool — Bach's earlier versions are sometimes quite different from the now-familiar versions, and the effect is sometimes aesthetically vertiginous, but, because Bach was Bach and thus fully in control of every aspect of his art, always absolutely persuasive. Ambroisie's sound is very clean, but a bit too close for comfort.
