Hype around Slipknot’s forthcoming album is reaching fever pitch, and now Corey Taylor has revealed more about the music it will contain.

Speaking with Jackson Rockman of iHeartRadio Canada, he said the record will be simultaneously “heavy”, “experimental”, and “melodic as hell”.

Corey also revealed that it is a very dark record lyrically.

“Lyrically, it’s the darkest that I’ve gone in a long time. I went through a really dark period, and it fueled all of my lyrics for this album, all of my emotions for this album.

“The shirking the chains of that depression, negativity, trying to get rid of that. And the vibe is so dark.

“People aren’t gonna… they’re not gonna know what to expect with it. It’s pretty crazy.”

Last month Taylor spoke with BBC Radio 1, and went deep into the musicality of the record.

“As a whole — and I can say this honestly — it is probably the furthest we’ve pushed the boundaries of creativity and experimentation, while also not losing our identity,” he said.

Slipknot will debut their new live show while they tour with Metallica later this year.
