Beck has announced his first album in three years Colors.

The US muso confirmed to Rolling Stone that the album is due to arrive in October and also spoke a little about why it took so long.

“I suppose the record could have come out a year or two ago,” he said.

“But these are complex songs all trying to do two or three things at once. It’s not retro and not modern. To get everything to sit together so it doesn’t sound like a huge mess was quite an undertaking.”

The record was produced by Greg Kurstin, who has also worked with Sia and Adele, and is expected to go down a pop route, similar to what he explored with ‘Wow’. There’s no word yet on whether or not that track will be on the record.

It’s not going to be an easy job to follow-up his previous album Morning Phase. That record nabbed him the Grammy for Album Of The Year.

The exact release date has not been announced just yet but we can expect it sometime in October.
