Part of being one of the hottest pop stars on the planet at the moment is that you inevitably are forced to deal with your tickets being scalped and sold at exorbitant prices on third-party websites.
It’s an issue that’s plagued Adele for some time now both at home and abroad, with her 2017 Australian shows selling out in quick time and those same tickets appearing on sites like Viagogo for anywhere up to $5,500. But now the singer-songwriter has taken a stand against scalpers, at least in the UK.
Tickets for Adele’s July 2017 shows at Wembley Stadium in London were sold out within minutes, and a familiar tale saw them reappear on third party sites for jacked up prices, prompting the singer to announce that only those ticketholders with their name printed on their ticket will be allowed entry.
Daily Mail reports that ticketholders can still sell and change the name on the ticket, but only for cost price via secure trading platform Twickets – essentially leaving scalpers up shit creek without a paddle.
The move comes as part of a global movement against scalpers, with American just recently passing legislation outlawing ticketing bots.
In terms of Adele’s Australian shows, Ticketek have advised fans not to purchase tickets on third-party sites because more often than not that same ticket has been purchased multiple times.
