In tragic news just in, metal legend Vinnie Paul Abbott has passed away at the age of 54.
An announcement about the iconic Pantera and Damageplan drummer’s death was made on the official Pantera Facebook page, with a statement reading:
“Vincent Paul Abbott aka Vinnie Paul has passed away. Paul is best known for his work as the drummer in the bands Pantera and Hellyeah. No further details are available at this time. The family requests you please respect their privacy during this time.”
Paul’s former Pantera bandmates Rex Brown and Phil Anselmo have yet to comment on the heartbreaking news, however metal identity Eddie Trunk — who first broke the news of Lemmy’s passing to the world — has tweeted saying he’s “absolutely stunned”.
Absolutely stunned to hear the unbelievable news that Vinnie Paul @Pantera has died… I knew Vinnie well. Did my shows many times. A great drummer and music fan and always a blast to hang with. Beyond tragic. Can’t believe it. #RIPVinniePaul .

As fans will know too well, Vinnie’s passing follows the tragic 2004 assassination of his brother and Pantera co-founder, Dimebag Darrell Abbott.
RIP Vinnie Paul. Hope you’re up there knocking back black tooth grins at the pearly gates with Dime.
